Smooth from Start to Finish - Positive Birth Story

Penny’s planned C-Section birth experience was everything she wished for - safe, calm and organised, with music playing, delayed cord clamping and skin-to-skin straight away.

I chose to have a C-Section due to some spinal issues causing doubt over my ability to push/labour effectively. Although I had options for pain relief to have a natural labour, I decided a C-Section was right for me.

I spoke about this with my midwife and spinal team who could not have been more supportive. I was referred to anaesthetics to ensure my spine was able to be safely accessed and, after a slight hiccup of being told I was ‘too posh to push’ and to try to labour because I’ll regret it, I was told everything was safe and all I had to do was wait for a date!

The C-Section experience was everything I could have asked for. It was safe, calm, organised and we were able to meet our baby with no stress or trauma. The team talked me through everything second by second and we even joked and laughed throughout.

Our baby girl arrived wide eyed and sucking her thumb whilst we listened to our favourite songs. We chose to have the screen lowered, I had delayed cord clamping and skin-to-skin straight away. My partner was able to be with her throughout and cut her cord whilst I was stitched up. We were only separated for a couple of minutes whilst I was moved to a bed.

I have already said to those who ask me that I would choose another C-Section in future and have recommended the c-sectionuk instagram to absolutely everyone!
