C-Section After Baby Loss - Positive Birth Story
T/W: Baby Loss.
After having just three days with her baby girl before she passed, Olivia chose to have a C-Section for her little boy and was looked after so wonderfully by her medical team as she welcomed him into the world. She so kindly shares little Freddie’s positive C-Section birth story with us.
My C-Section story comes after I had a Category 1 Emergency C-Section back in October 2022. This saved my life, and gave us 3 days with our beautiful daughter before she passed on October 5th 2022, due to negligence at labour.
Our son Freddie was born on the 3rd November at 38 weeks 1 day, via elective C-Section. Our Midwife and Obstetrician both specialised is bereavement care and made it the most special experience for us. They came and explained everything that could happen, in regards to risk and how the procedure worked. When entering the theatre, the staff were all aware of our circumstances and aware of our angel girl Martha. They spoke of her using her name, asked us information and kept us calm while having my cannula fitted and the spinal block done.
Going through the whole procedure with us, they allowed my mum as well as my partner in theatre to keep me occupied. My blood pressure dipped after the spinal block, and they rectified it straight away, explaining it was normal and this happens. All the way through I was reassured how good my stats were and that everything was going well! Having a second C-Section within 13 months, they took extra care as there was a slight bit of scar tissue. This is completely normal and no one needs to worry!
Our Freddie boy came out of the womb screaming! We got to chose our own playlist and he came into the world to the song ‘Have a Nice Day’ by the Stereophonics. A lovely 7lb 9oz at 38 weeks 1 day. Everyone was so happy for us. Upon it being time to be stitched up, they took such good care of me, made my scar so neat - at 9 weeks postpartum it’s basically non-existent.
I feel like there’s such a stigma around C-Sections but both times I’ve had an amazing recovery. I was fully mobile and off painkillers within a week.
